Documentary Production in Scotland
Documentary production is where the full range of Morrocco Media skills converges. The research discipline of a scientific background, the access that comes from years working inside the Scottish outdoor and sport community, the cinematographic craft developed over two decades: documentary is what happens when all of those things are brought to bear on a subject that deserves a serious treatment.
Our documentary work includes Comfort Zones, a film about steep skiing in Scotland that drew on contributions from academic philosophers to explore the psychology of risk and the personal motivations that drive people toward increasingly demanding terrain. Shot at Glenshee and featuring Dr Philip Ebert and Professor Laurie Paul as contributors, it sits at the intersection of landscape film, sport documentary and philosophical inquiry. That kind of territory is where we find our most interesting work.
We have also produced documentary and long-form content for the BBC, for tourism organisations and for sports bodies. The format serves different purposes depending on the client: a twenty-five-minute broadcast documentary requires a different approach from a ten-minute online film, which in turn is different from a short-form piece intended for social media. We are experienced across all those lengths and delivery contexts.
If you are developing a documentary commission, an editorial film or a long-form brand story and want to discuss whether it is the right project for us, we welcome that conversation early in the process. The best documentary work starts with a brief that is still open, before the structure has been decided. That is where we can contribute most.

“I have enjoyed working with Stefan and his team of camera and drone operators over the past decade. Morrocco Media are very good at coming up with a creative brief, long hours on shoots and then turning around technical edits for clients. Their specialty is the great outdoors in Scotland, but they are also very good at interview and corporate projects.”

Frequently asked questions
What kind of documentaries does Morrocco Media produce?
We produce long-form sport, landscape and editorial documentary for broadcast, online and brand clients. Our work ranges from Comfort Zones, a philosophical film about steep skiing at Glenshee, to documentary and long-form content for the BBC, tourism organisations and sports bodies.
What lengths and formats do you work in?
We are experienced across the full range, from twenty-five-minute broadcast documentaries to ten-minute online films and short-form pieces for social media. Each calls for a different approach, and the format should follow the purpose of the film.
When is the best time to involve you in a documentary project?
As early as possible. The best documentary work starts with a brief that is still open, before the structure has been decided. That is where we can contribute most — in shaping the project as well as filming and finishing it.
